Kwee Choo is 64 this year. Before she found training, her knees had become a real problem. She could not squat at all. Sitting down on the floor was out of the question, and even walking was something she had to force herself through.

Her family sells honey, and the buckets that come with the trade were heavy: she could only carry them a small distance at a time. It was her daughter who finally asked the question out loud: Mom, does your knee hurt? That care, and that encouragement, was what got her to do something about it.

I want to encourage those of you the same age as me. Come, do weight training.

She had seen people work out by following videos, but she understood the risk: without someone watching, you can do your body more damage. What convinced her was having a coach supervising right beside her, keeping her safe and moving her toward the goals she set. So, at 64, Kwee Choo started weight training.

Things she once totally could not do herself, she now can. “I can do it,” she says, and she means it: she has learned to master the movements, one by one. Her message is for her own generation: I want to encourage those of you the same age as me. Come, do weight training.
